Skating
Our location on Lake Ontario can have advantages, even in the winter.
In 2006 the lake froze over during a period with very little snow,
and it was an unforgettable experience to get out on the clear black ice
and glide across the majestic lake on a beautiful winter day.
Hockey
When conditions aren't right for skating outdoors, a group of physics
students sometimes rents the ice in the phys-ed centre for a friendly game of
hockey.
Soccer
Here physics students play a game of soccer by the lake at lunchtime
during the summer. In hot weather, a quick swim afterward is a great way
to cool off before returning to physics for the afternoon.
Parties
It seems that every year we find at least one reason to party at
Art's place. Here Barry, Art and George can be seen cracking open
the champagne for a celebration of the SNO results.
Pig Roast
The students put their culinary and technical abilities to the test and host a
pig roast at Ryan's house with a home-made barbeque apparatus. (Note the
assortment of rather unusual cooking utensils on the wall behind our hosts.)
Night Life
It can't be said that physics students don't know how to enjoy the night
life: Here, a group of students spend an evening by rigging the SNO calibration
source manipulator test setup with a blue LED and programming the system to
to spell out the word "SNO" in a 6800-point font. The image was captured in a
time exposure by Lorne Erhardt as the source was moved through the pre-programmed
pattern.
Ski Trips
A group of physics students take a break by resting their feet on Ryan
during a ski trip to Whiteface mountain with the Queen's ski club in 2006.
